Nominations for Chris Coulson Communicator of the Year Award

Now Accepting Nominations for the Chris Coulson Communicator of the Year Award

Each year, NC3C has the opportunity to recognize a member whose character, career and service represent the highest standards of the profession. The Communicator of the Year is someone who excels in the practice of local government communications and/or has accomplished an outstanding one-time achievement.

The award is named in honor and memory of Chris Coulson, a founding member of NC3C who demonstrated these attributes throughout her career.

Nominations are being accepted through an online nomination form on the NC3C website, where you can share information about the person’s career and accomplishments. The form can be accessed in Meetings and Conferences via a drop-down link from the Excellence in Communications Contest. Scroll to the bottom to find the information for the Chris Coulson Award and the nomination form link.

Feel free to nominate an NC3C member – including yourself! – for this distinguished honor. Nominations are being accepted through Friday, March 1.

Professional Tip of the Month

Beware of the Share?

If your community is like mine, Facebook rules when it comes to local social media engagement. We like to be a good partner on Facebook by sharing great news about our community from other organizations across the county.

We’ve noticed, however, that Facebook has gotten a bit cranky about shares. When we share a post from another entity, its reach is minimal. However, when we create an original post that essentially repurposes the same content as the post we’d normally share, the reach goes much further.

(When it comes to Facebook, we have stopped asking why when it comes to their ever-changing algorithms.)

While sharing is always a great thing to do, both on Facebook and in life, we encourage you (for now, until things change again) to take a few extra minutes and create organic posts for those shares you really want to get out there. Your Facebook friends – and stats – will thank you for it.

President's Report

Hello NC3C!

I am so excited at the work that is happening behind the scenes by our board and our committees.  You elected a great team who have been handling the awards program, conference details, communications, sponsorships, and our budget!

The annual conference is around the bend, so make sure to get it on your calendar and register now.  We really look forward to everyone getting together in April to network and learn in Durham.  This is the time of the year we can all look forward to taking a break from our daily jobs and get refreshed with new ideas and just reconnecting with friends and colleagues.

I am also so excited to announce that we have had a stellar year for the Awards of Excellence Contest.  We had 248 entries this year!  This is amazing.  This is the most we have ever had.  Thank you for entering your best work.  I can’t wait to see the Awards presentation at conference and congratulate the winners.

As a reminder, at our conference, we have our annual membership meeting on Friday morning where we Elect the 2019-2020 board.  If you would like to run for an office on the board, now is the time to be thinking about that.  The information to nominate someone (or yourself) is in this email.  If you are interested in running, or know someone who is, please click the link and fill out the form.  There will also be an opportunity to nominate at the conference, prior to the board meeting on Friday.

As always, stay connected to www.NC3C.com, as well as our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter, for the latest updates all year.
