We're excited to announce we'll be having an annual conference this year--but, due to the ongoing pandemic, we'll be getting together virtually. We hope you'll block off some time on April 29-30 to join your friends and counterparts from around the state as we delve into a wide range of engaging and enlightening topics in both general and breakout virtual sessions.

We'll kick things off on the morning of April 29 with a keynote by Peter Kageyama, an internationally renowned author and thought leader who will help us see new ways to communicate a sense of place and a love for the communities where we work and live. Peter will follow up his keynote with a "deep dive" session in which we'll further explore some of the themes in his keynote.

Additional topics we plan to cover in this year's virtual conference include:

  • Social media influencers and communicating on public health matters

  • Building more welcoming communities (presentation by Welcoming America)

  • The latest on what you need to know about public records and open meetings law in North Carolina (presentation by NC Open Government Coalition)

  • Social media accounts and legal/First Amendment considerations (presentation by professor with UNC School of Government)

  • Plus lots more!

We'll also provide time to network virtually so that we can be together ... apart.

The tentative schedule is Thursday, April 29 from 8:30 to 12:45, and Friday, April 30 from 8:30 to noon with an optional lunchtime Zoom get-together to follow. The dates are confirmed, so go ahead and block them off; times may wind up varying ever so slightly.

Look for a more detailed agenda in the next few weeks, but for now, block this event off on your calendar and go ahead and register. Please also spread the word to your colleagues and others whom you think might want to join us!

We look forward to seeing you. Take care, and stay safe.
